There's artistic gold in them there hills. Or maybe 5 hills over.
But we don't often venture out there to explore. You're from Shawville? When's the last time you checked out the village of Denholm? Oh, you didn't know it existed? Well, they got a lovely and well equipped performance space! You're from Cantley? And your last trip to Danford Lake was when? |
Wouldn't it be nice ...?
- if your band could easily book a series of concerts …. all within driving distance, or
- if you could easily find a new (musical or other) act to book for your venue or event, or
- if you could easily access info on visual artists you may want to show in your gallery, or
- if you could find new galleries, restaurants or public spaces in which to exhibit your artwork
- if you could easily fill a dayful of programming for a big (or small) community event – a fair, a community picnic, a fundraising event, … anything from music, dance to clowning and magic for the kids?
- if you could easily hook up with people who share you artistic interests? Or want to bring more arts to your community?
THIS IS WHAT THE 100 MILE ARTS NETWORK WILL MAKE POSSIBLE.
It will make publicly accessible a roster of artists from all disciplines.
It will make publicly accessible a roster of venues that can and want to host cultural events.
It will make publicly accessible a roster of people, businesses, media, funders, municipal staff - people who want to increase arts and cultural presentations in our region.

These tools will be available in a searchable format so you can easily find what or who you are looking for.
Eventually all the info will be visually presented in a map.

And where are we at right now?
I am glad you asked.
We're evolving. We did our initial outreach, mapped out the network and put the tools in front of some focus groups.
This process gave us some invaluable insights in what the needs are of the different target groups and the different communities.
We learnt and we are now reaching out again.
As in any good evolution we have reached the Hunter and Gatherer stage. Artists, organizers, venue owner and managers, community stakeholders: ADD YOUR NAME AND YOUR VOICE.
We also want to give people the skills they need to pull off events, exhibitions and arts events and tours.
So we have planned some WORKSHOPS presented by local experts with the necessary experience.

If you've never toured or have never organized an event, fear not! You'll be good to go after these workshops.
