Part-Time Executive Director
Outaouais Region, Quebec | Part-Time, Hybrid, fixed-term employment contract | $35/hour · up to 18 hrs/week
About the 100 Mile Arts Network
The 100 Mile Arts Network is a dynamic, growing not-for-profit organization that connects, supports, and promotes English-speaking creative professionals across the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, MRC de Pontiac, and MRC de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau in western Quebec. By reducing isolation, creating paid opportunities, and amplifying the visibility of regional artists, we are building a stronger, more inclusive arts community – one rooted in a deep respect for the land and the cultures of the Outaouais.
Funded by Canadian Heritage, the Secrétariat aux relations avec les Québécois d’expression anglaise, the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, and the Municipalité de La Pêche, the Network operates a physical gallery space in Wakefield, Quebec, and delivers a range of programs in collaboration with artists, venues, and community partners across the region.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a resourceful, community-minded leader to serve as our part-time Executive Director. This role is offered at up to 18 hours per week, with a formal review at the six-month mark to assess workload, priorities, and organizational needs. Hours may be adjusted at that time by mutual agreement. As the Network grows and funding permits, there is potential for this position to evolve into a full-time role, and we welcome candidates who are interested in growing with us.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Board of Directors to steward the Network’s mission, ensure organizational sustainability, and deepen relationships with our members and partners.
This is an ideal role for someone who thrives in a small-organization environment, is comfortable wearing multiple hats, and is genuinely passionate about the arts and the communities of western Quebec.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Governance
- Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to implement the Network’s five-year strategic plan
- Provide regular written and verbal reports to the Board on programs, finances, and organizational progress
- Represent the Network at community events, sector gatherings, and public forums
- Uphold organizational values including equity, inclusion, and respect for Indigenous rights and land
Human Resources & Contractor Management
- Recruit, onboard, supervise, and evaluate staff and contracted service providers
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and productive working environment
- Ensure compliance with relevant employment legislation and organizational HR policies
- Manage volunteer coordination in support of programs and events
Grant Writing & Financial Stewardship
- Identify, research, and pursue funding opportunities from federal, provincial, and municipal sources, as well as private foundations
- Write and submit compelling grant applications; manage reporting requirements and funder relationships
- Develop and monitor annual budgets in collaboration with the Board treasurer
- Ensure responsible financial management and transparency in accordance with not-for-profit best practices
Partnership Development & Community Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with like-minded arts organizations, cultural networks, service providers, municipal governments, and Indigenous communities
- Actively participate in regional cultural planning and sector development initiatives
- Seek out collaboration opportunities that strengthen the Network’s programming and visibility
- Represent the interests of English-speaking artists in the Outaouais at the regional and provincial level
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in not-for-profit management, arts administration, or a closely related field
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English – an essential requirement of the position due to the organization’s mandate and the members it serves.
- Demonstrated success in grant writing and funder relations, preferably in a Canadian arts or cultural context
- Experience managing staff, volunteers, and/or contractors
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize across multiple workstreams
- Proficiency with standard office and communications tools (Google Workspace, email, social media)
- Genuine commitment to the arts, to rural and English-speaking minority communities, and to equity and inclusion
Assets
- Oral and written bilingualism in French and English is a significant asset given the organization’s operating context in Quebec.
- Familiarity with the Outaouais arts and cultural sector
- Experience with music programming or working with musicians
- Knowledge of Quebec not-for-profit legislation and governance requirements
Working Conditions
This is a fixed-term contract, and the successful candidate will be employed by the organization. The contract is for up to 18 hours per week at a rate of $35/hour. The expected start date of the position is July 2026. The position is hybrid: a combination of remote work and in-person presence in the office located in the heart of Wakefield, Quebec. In-person attendance may be needed for community events, gallery programming, and key partner engagements. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors.
